The 4th of July has to be the most laid-back holiday ever. Statistically.
Ok, maybe not statistically. I'm not sure how you would measure laid-backness (which is not a real word). But all I mean is that everyone has a different way of celebrating. Some people throw a party or cook out, some people go to a fireworks show, community events are held, churches throw carnival type parties, families get together, I could go on.
The 4th of July for me is usually pretty random. This year I work. And I can't complain about time and half pay, but still.
Another random 4th of July I spent in London. I was still in college and I was doing a summer semester as an exchange student at the University of London. Which was awesome. But me and my room mates knew the burden was on our shoulders for celebrating the 4th. I mean, we were in the very country the pilgrims left. We were going to be celebrating at America's ex's house, so to speak. So I went to the grocery store and tried to buy the most American thing I could find.
I bought frozen onion rings. I'm not sure why I thought this was so American. I'm weird. And boy did they stink up the apartment when we baked them. Ha!
Now that I am older. Wiser. More kick-ass.
Or at least older. I like to make my own onion rings. They taste better, and stink less.
Slice up a large white onion (as thin or thick as you like your onion rings). Dip onion slices in flour. Then dip them in an egg+1 tablespoon milk solution. Then dip them in bread crumbs (I used Panko). Now fry them in 2-3 inches of hot (but not too hot so they burn quickly) oil 1 minute on each side.
If you don't like frying you can bake. I don't know for how long. I'm proud to be American, so I fried.
Just kidding, you can be a proud American and bake too;)
What is everyone doing for the 4th?
We started celebrating the 4th on June 26th, when my husband's cousin held his annual fireworks show. It's better than our town's show on the 4th. Yesterday was spent on a friend's porch with a great view. Tonight was spent on another friends' porch with a not-so-great view. But they were all so much fun! Happy 4th!

I really like your blog's style, and hungry to withstand friends is that: the strict test! So we can carry the absolute trust.
