In Novemeber of this year, I formally sold out my half of the Photography studio I used to co-own, Convey Studios. While I loved photographing, and enjoyed doing it for a living, leaving the studio was one of the harder things I had to do in life, It felt like I was going through a divorce. It all began in July 06, so it has been going on now for a long while and is finally done. I must say that durring this time, from July till now, I have picked up my camera only when necessary, or to take pictures of my friends kids for fun.
I wanted to show you some the first photos I have taken...for me... for the first time in a year. Introducing Syndey (she is the little one) and Kasey. These are 2 amazing girls who happen to be in my life right now!
This next one is one of my fav's.
First, I desaturated the original and then boosted the contrast. I like a really bright white and a really dark black, but you have to see detail in the shadows for it to be to my liking.
then, I opened a new Solid color layer right on top of the image. (if you are using photo shop, and I use CS, in your little layer box that is opened, I click on the circle that is half white and half black, and choose solid color. then choose black. in the same little layer box, in the upper right hand corner, I slide the saturation bar down to about 50 or 60.) there are multiple other ways to get this done.
While the "solid color" layer is selected choose your eraser tool and make sure that that the hardness is like on 0%. Make the size of the eraser big enough to highlight the "object" or person that you want highlighted. For this image, I started right at the top of the alley, and made on swipe down the entire image. (you could just do this in the center of the image of in the corner, but for this image i wanted to highlight the entire sun-lit space)
Flatten and Save!!
I was excited about the way it turned out.
'Sometimes' things are a little more fun if it isn't so posed.
Love you all! *sarah

Sarah,
Beautiful work. I would like to try and follow these instructions sometime. I have PSE #5. Of course it would probably take me a whole day to do so. I need step by step instructions. Is there anything else I would need to know? You can e-mail me. You can do so from my blog. Thanks
Angela

What does a black overlay mean and how do you do that? And the eraser part....what did you have to do for that. These are pretty much my ?'s to the comment above. Thanks, Angela

Um, the title of this post is pretty much brilliant. I had to pause to laugh before I could continue reading.

These are lovely. I didn't know that you used to own half of Convey Studios. I'm really looking forward to when we can sit down face to face and chat!
