I fried me some pickles ya'll!
Crunchy, starchy on the outside and tangy zangy (and a little bit sweet) on the inside.
I don't think zangy is actually a word...
Ever since I had some fried pickles at a bar with a friend last Christmas I have been itchy to try and make my own. And you know what, it's super easy!
And although I would not say this is a healthy snack, um, I would say it's healthier than fried cheese.
Healthier than fried cheese, there's something to brag about.
To make these you will need: pickles, flour, 1-2 eggs, cornmeal and oil to fry them in.
In a dutch oven or heavy duty pan heat up enough oil that the pickles could be completely submerged, they need to be able to float a little.
Dip the pickles in flour, then into the whisked egg, then into the fry batter made of 1 part cornmeal and 1 part flour. When the oil is hot gently lay the coated pickles in the oil and let them cook for 2 minutes or so on each side. Using a (not plastic, it'll melt, dude) slotted spoon remove pickles and let them cool on a bed of paper towels.
You can serve them with ranch or ketchup (if you're fancy). I just like to eat them.

i totally love fried pickles! i'm so gonna try this.

My brother in law and I love fried pickles. No one else in our family does and we have been saying we are going to try to make some, now I can! What type of oil did you use. I typically use olive oil but do you think it wouldn't be wise since it gets hotter and may catch fire easier? What type of oil did you use?

"healthier than fried cheese" is now my go-to response to people coyly turning down my baked goods.
i am really loving your food styling lately--keep up the good work lovely lady:)

i love fried pickles, especially with ranch! I've never tried to make them b/c me and frying things are non-mixy but that's why i have a husband :)

Tammy-I used vegetable oil. Canola oil or peanut oil would be good too. Olive oil will work but do watch the heat, and it will make your fried pickles taste more... well, like olive oil. Good luck! :)

fried pickles go really well with a lemon aioli too! I had them at a restaurant on my birthday a couple of years ago. They were amazing and I haven't had them since...

I totally want new tattoos right now, just can't decide where to get them. A little house (combo of your 2 designs :), the word "LOVE" from the cover of our family book Guess How Much I Love You, 7 stars for each of us (me, hubby, and our 5 kids) in each of our birthstone colors, and a camera. I better get crackin'! Love the camera and the sewing machine... and some version of a letter! Love that!
